Sonflower Christian Preschool

Just as the sunflower follows the sun, let us follow the Light of The World

Sonflower Christian Preschool in Durango, CO, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit program dedicated to nurturing children through a play-based, hands-on curriculum that fosters emotional, social, and cognitive growth. Rooted in a loving Christian environment, we emphasize the whole child—soul, mind, and body—partnering with families to prepare students for Kindergarten. Our approach combines creative play, structured activities, and outdoor learning opportunities to inspire curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. With a focus on the process of learning and individualized growth, our curriculum aligns with Colorado Education Standards, and each child’s progress is celebrated through personalized portfolios.

FAITH

The Christian faith is our foundation, fostering spiritual growth, moral development, and a loving environment that nurtures the whole child—soul, mind, and body. Guided by John 8:12: "I am the Light of the World; he who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

NATURE

We prioritize outdoor learning, providing at least 2 hours daily through activities like free play, gardening, forest exploration, and guided experiences that foster essential child development.

PLAY

We believe that young children learn best through creative play.  Our hands on curriculum uses play with structured activities to promote the development of cognitive, motor, and social skills.

See What Parents Are Saying

From the very first day we went to Sonflower for our family tour, my husband and I looked at each other and smiled. We just knew this was where we wanted our child to be. The curriculum, focus on outdoor play, and small teacher to child ration was exactly what we were looking for. Plus, it’s far more affordable than many schools we looked at (something we didn’t even know until we had decided the Sonflower was going to be our choice- so bonus!)
